Addiction

You don’t have to be ruled or defined by addiction. With God’s help, you can break free and move forward.

There are voices in our heads and in our hearts that try to tell us that we’re stuck where we are. These voices tell us that no matter how much we wish our lives could be different, or no matter how little we like ourselves the way we are, we don’t have the strength to change the status quo. You don’t have to listen to those voices. Every human being has problems–God knows this. And He is willing and able to help us all. No one is too lost to be found. No bad habit or bad lifestyle is too ironclad to be overcome. In the Bible, we’re reminded that wherever we go, we’re never too far away for God to reach us.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:7-10)

Addiction can take many forms: we can be addicted to alcohol, drugs, pornography, and many other things. These addictions can be powerful and destructive enemies, but they’re not invincible. If you want to change your lifestyle, and you reach out to God for the help and the strength that you need, you will be able to change. Lifestyle change is never easy, and it never happens overnight; to truly break free of your addiction you will need to commit to a new way of living, and you will need to stay the course. But God will be with you every step of the way.

Support groups and recovery programs are powerful tools for breaking free from addictions. You’re encouraged to look for an AA or NA or similar group that meets in your area–odds are, there’s one that meets not too far away.
