Do You Have Room?

When the expecting Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem to be taxed and counted as part of the census demanded by Emperor Caesar Augustus they found no place where they could stay.  There was no room for them in the inn. They were only able to find a place in the animal stable where Jesus would be born, with a manger serving as a bed.

This Second Sunday of Advent we will reflect on the place of the Lord’s birth, asking why Jesus was born where He was and why there was no room for Him in more traditional lodging. What lesson does this hold for us? We will reflect on what we make room for in our own lives and whether we have space for the messages of love, truth and kindness to one another that the Lord wishes to implant in our heart and mind. We will also see if we might be able to create a bit more room within our selves where these good inclinations and impulses can take root, grow and be born.
